Original Vintage c1920 “Pratt’s Motor Spirit” Enamel Sign #1. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ON THE UK SITE AND LISTED IN GB POUNDS. “Pratt’s Motor Spirit”. This “Pratt’s Perfection Spirit” sign dates from the 1920’s and is in “as found” condition and has not been repaired or restored. The ANGLO – AMERICAN OIL CO LTD was formed in 1888 and by the early 1900’s was importing motor spirit in to the U. Under the brand name of “Pratt’s”. In 1935 the “Pratt’s” products were re-branded “ESSO”. This sign would have been in a garage forecourt where it could be seen by passing motorists, this sign has a row of holes along the bottom, this may indicate that it was originally attached to a display rack. The sign has the usual small areas of enamel loss and “nibbles” to the edges, as well as some areas of loss to the body and two additional holes drilled through it also has the usual scuffs and scratches that you would expect from an item of this age and use. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. The stylish black and white lettering is still legible, there is some fading to the black, but overall the sign has a fair depth of colour. This sign also has the makers name Imperial Enamel Co. Birmingham along the bottom of one side. All in all, this is a nice example of a classic piece of British automobilia in good original condition. It measures 66.5 cm (26 inches) long and 20 cm (8 inches) high.
