Vintage VOLKSWAGEN Large Advertising Wall Thermometer c1960s. This belonged to a soldier who served at the tail end of the Korean War in 1954. Before he came back to the States he visited Seoul and Tokyo and took many slides. I’ve scanned these slides and although I haven’t listed them yet – it’s evident that he was already fascinated and in love with the Volkswagen back in 1954 as a small number of the slides capture the Beetles zipping down congested city streets. This is a relatively large wall thermometer. It measures 13″ long x 2.75″ wide and is American made. The paint surface shows some oxidation with some paint loss at the top left as seen. Blue & white enameled Volkwagen convex badge. Glass thermometer clear and intact. I wasn’t able to find another matching example anywhere on the internet.
