This true original old sign from around the 1960s is a great iconic name in car racing and motor oil! It is about 15 1/2″ X 11″, embossed or raised lettering, tin metal, it used to swing on the top of an oil can display rack and has a rolled top edge. Its age is showing in the age clouding spots, a little scuffing at the top left edge, and some foxing at the sign edges. Factory flaws include some tiny flea bites, and some color variation in the white letters. Overall there is little if any actual wear. Great to hang and display on your wall, this is my last one. Great patriotic red, white and blue colors – a must have addition to your gas station or race car memorabilia! This is a beautiful vintage Richfield Gas & Oil advertisement desk top cigarette holder with cover from 1917. Bronze-clad plaster presentation cigarette box, strong early race car theme with nicely rendered flying road dust kicked up by speeding race car. Was offered to dealers as a premium for Richfield Gas Stations in 1917, only some minor scratches, but overall is in excellent condition and very rare item. 5″ tall X 9.5″ X 4. Weighs about 3.5 lbs. It is in pretty good looking condition and displays well. It has scratches and some wear but not too bad , the back is also scratched. The paint on this is in different levels so it’s not any kind of print or decal sticker. I cleaned and added a layer of wax to make it more shiny and treated the rusted areas so it won’t get worse. Stunning artwork on this pictorial enamel sign and very good quality produced using genuine porcelain enamel process. This sign is not a printed tin sign – it’s the real deal, and made from vitreous enamel. They have produced them in the same traditional way that was used over 100 years ago. Vitreous enamel is basically glass that has been applied to the steel plate, we then have to build up to an intense heat in an oven, but it’s not that simple! Next we apply each colour separately and then fire each one by one. The colours have to be fired in the correct order and at different temperatures, to ensure that the previous colour is not affected. This leaves you with an incredibly durable, fade proof, weatherproof enamel sign that is produced in just the same way as the vintage signs that are so collectable today.
