Original Vintage c1960s “Shell” Enamel Sign. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ON THE UK SITE AND LISTED IN GB POUNDS. This striking “Shell” enamel sign dates from the 1960’s, it is in “as found” condition and has not been repaired or restored by us. THE SHELL TRANSPORT AND TRADING CO was the idea of two brothers – and was formed in 1897. The company grew quickly and in 1907 Shell merged with the Royal Dutch Petroleum Company and from there Shell was set to become a worldwide brand with many affiliate companies. This sign would have been displayed on a garage forecourt, probably, in a frame, with a B. Sign on the other side, where it could be seen by passing motorists. The sign has the usual areas of enamel loss and “nibbles” to the edges, it also has the usual scuffs, rust marks and scratches that you would expect from an item of this age and use. It also has had four holes drilled in to it at some point. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. The lettering and shell logo is still clear and legible and the sign has a good depth of colour and gloss. All in all, this is a nice example of a classic piece of British automobilia in good original condition. It measures 72 cm (28 1/2 inches) long and 77 cm (30 1/2 inches) high.
