This fabulous “Pratt’s Petrol & Oils” double sided sign dates from the 1930’s and is in “as found” condition and has not been repaired or restored. The ANGLO – AMERICAN OIL CO LTD was formed in 1888 and by the early 1900’s was importing motor spirit in to the U. Under the brand name of “Pratt’s”. In 1935 the “Pratt’s” products were re-branded “ESSO”. This sign would have been attached to a garage forecourt wall where it could be seen by passing motorists. The sign has the usual areas of enamel loss and “nibbles” to the edges, as well as patches of loss to the body on both sides, it also has the usual scuffs and scratches that you would expect from an item of this age and use. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. The colourful border and stylish lettering still has a good depth of colour and gloss. The flange is strong and sturdy and has four mounting holes. All in all, this is a good example of a classic piece of British automobilia in good original condition. It measures 56 cm (22 inches) long and 46 cm (18 inches) high. We take great care to describe our items as clearly and honestly as possible, including any faults or flaws that we may see.
